Frostfall 2 gives music a sense of place. Instruments surround you, effects follow the action, and the soundtrack continues in MUSIC HALL long after you put the game down. Explore how its spatial sound is made.
Every piece of background music was composed especially for Frostfall 2 in 7.1.4-channel surround. “Yuki YA KONKO” is the exception: a bespoke arrangement of the familiar melody.
Think of seven directions around ear level, one low-frequency channel and four overhead channels. With compatible spatial-audio equipment such as AirPods Pro, the music is designed to wrap around you and bring the game’s world to life.
More to discover. Five bonus songs span different genres beyond the in-game score—making Frostfall 2 a place to enjoy 3D music in its own right.
7.1.4 describes the authored sound field. Playback is rendered for your connected device; the spatial experience depends on your setup.
Imagine sitting among the musicians. A melody can float above you while percussion and harmony occupy their own places around you.
During gameplay, Apple’s PHASE audio engine positions individual musical tracks in 3D. Layered arrangements can reach around 40 separate parts, giving the score a richly defined sense of space.
Behind the mix. Each part, or stem, has its own horizontal direction and height—called azimuth and elevation. Authored movement lets selected instruments travel through the scene, while synchronized playback keeps every part together.
These are musical parts, not 40 songs or 40 speaker channels. The number of stems varies by piece; the diagram is illustrative.
A sound belongs where the action happens. A snowball on the right is heard from the right; events higher on screen gain a sense of height.
PHASE maps each effect’s on-screen X and Y coordinates into a 180-degree sound field in front of you. The result brings what you see and what you hear into the same space.
Behind the mapping. X controls horizontal direction across the front semicircle, while Y contributes vertical placement. Moving effects can sweep with the action, strengthening the connection between screen and sound.
MUSIC HALL is Frostfall 2’s dedicated music player. Return to any song as often as you like, follow the playlist, and explore bonus tracks beyond the adventure.
Every song is included as an APAC-encoded 7.1.4 recording. APAC—Apple Positional Audio Codec—lets MUSIC HALL play the prepared spatial mix through iOS’s audio playback system.
Keep listening when you lock your iPhone. Play, pause, skip and seek from the Lock Screen, so the music can accompany your day.
Open MUSIC HALL in Settings using the music button.
Alongside stereo reference meters, MUSIC HALL offers a 3D map that makes the spatial mix easier to explore.
Frequency view. Six frequency bands show where low, mid and high-frequency energy is concentrated around you. Each band’s position is estimated from the multichannel recording, giving you a live picture of the mix’s balance and spread.
INSTRUMENTS mode. Explore the authored 3D layout of the musical stems, including movement where available. This view uses the song’s instrument-position data, so you can follow individual parts as the arrangement unfolds.
The views complement each other: one analyzes the mixed sound; the other reveals the intended source layout. INSTRUMENTS is available for tracks with instrument data. The displays visualize the recording and its authoring data, rather than measuring the final headphone output.
Connect compatible spatial-audio headphones, open Settings → MUSIC HALL, and choose a track. Let the world of Frostfall 2 surround you.
